aBout Byurakan Observatory
Byurakan Observatory is one of Armenia’s most important scientific and astronomical centers, founded in 1946 by the famous astrophysicist Viktor Ambartsumian. It is located on the southern slope of Mount Aragats, in a high mountain area that provides clear skies and ideal conditions for astronomical observations. The observatory has played a major role in the development of modern astrophysics, especially in the study of star formation, galaxies, and cosmic activity. Over the years, it became internationally known for its scientific discoveries and research contributions. The complex includes several telescopes, research buildings, and scientific facilities, including the large 2.6-meter telescope, which is one of the biggest in the region. Today, Byurakan continues to function as an active research center while also serving as an educational and cultural destination for visitors interested in space and science.
