About makaravank
Makaravank is a beautiful medieval monastery located in the Tavush region of Armenia, near the village of Achajur, on a forested mountain slope. It is one of the most important and well-preserved examples of Armenian medieval architecture, dating mainly from the 10th to 13th centuries. The monastery is surrounded by dense forests and green hills, which create a very peaceful and spiritual atmosphere. Because of its location, Makaravank feels hidden in nature, far from busy cities, making it a quiet place for visitors who want to explore history and enjoy natural beauty at the same time. The monastery complex consists of several churches and buildings made from red and dark volcanic stone. The main church, Surb Astvatsatsin, is especially known for its beautiful architecture, domes, and finely carved stone ornaments.
