About Etchmiadzin
Etchmiadzin (Vagharshapat) is one of the most important religious and historical cities in Armenia and the spiritual center of the Armenian Apostolic Church. It is located in the Armavir region, not far from Yerevan, and is known as the “Holy City” for Armenians. According to tradition, Etchmiadzin is the place where Saint Gregory the Illuminator saw a vision of Christ descending from heaven, which led to the establishment of the first Christian cathedral in Armenia.
