aBout Lake Sevan
Lake Sevan is the largest lake in Armenia and one of the highest freshwater lakes in the world. It is located in the Gegharkunik region and is often called the “blue pearl of Armenia” because of its clear blue water and beautiful mountain surroundings. The lake plays an important role in Armenia’s nature, climate, and economy. It is a popular destination for rest, tourism, swimming, fishing, and summer vacations. Around the lake there are beaches, hotels, restaurants, and small villages where visitors can enjoy a peaceful atmosphere and fresh mountain air. Lake Sevan is also rich in wildlife and fish, especially the famous Sevan trout, which is considered a special local delicacy.
Sevanavank is a historic monastery located on a peninsula on the northwestern shore of Lake Sevan. It was founded in the 9th century by Princess Mariam of Armenia. The monastery complex includes two main churches built from dark volcanic stone, which creates a strong contrast with the bright blue water of the lake. Sevanavank is one of the most important religious and cultural sites in Armenia and is a symbol of medieval Armenian architecture and faith. From the monastery, visitors can enjoy one of the most beautiful panoramic views in the country, where the lake, mountains, and sky come together in one landscape.
